Stefan Kürten (b. 1963, Düsseldorf) is a painter and musician.  He attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, and later studied and taught at the Art Institute of San Francisco.

Kürten creates layered, intricately detailed depictions of architecture, landscapes, and domestic interiors. Typically devoid of figures, human presence is indirectly referenced through the portrayal of the familiar spaces of everyday life. Kürten often incorporates decorative motifs drawn from wallpaper or textiles, resulting in works that are simultaneously realistic depictions of the mundane and formalist experiments of line and pattern.

Stefan Kürten's work has been exhibited extensively since 1984 at galleries and institutions such as University Art Museum, Berkeley, California; Royal Hibernian Academy, Dublin; Galerie Ute Parduhn, Düsseldorf; Alexander and Bonin, New York; and Hosfelt Gallery, San Francisco. Kürten’s paintings are in the permanent collections of several European and American institutions including Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf; Kunstmuseen Krefeld, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

In 2022, a selection of Kürten’s works from the past ten years were included in a two artist exhibition with Sven Kroner in Zu Hause at Sammlung Glampe. Berlin.  He exhibited new paintings in When the Night Comes Falling from the Sky at Beck & Eggeling International Fine Art, Düsseldorf, accompanied by a catalogue with essay by Gregor Jansen.
